How to Cope with Menopause - Advice for Couples

Menopause is a time of change for a woman and for her partner as well. It is natural for the relationship to change, but it does not have to and should not worsen.

There are things that both partners can do to make the transition easier and smoother.

Tips for Women

Try to accept the changes that your body undergoes. Do the same with the changes in your life. The situation is perfectly natural.

Being menopausal does not mean that you are not a woman anymore.

You can do all things you have done before in just the same way.

There is nothing you can do to turn the clock back, but there are many things which you can do to feel and to enjoy life as before.

Do not shut yourself off from your partner or your family in general.

It is difficult to make others understand what you are going through and make them supportive and sympathetic without sharing with them.

If you explain to your partner how you feel chances are high that he will help you feel as comfortable as possible.

For instance, you will most certainly avoid fights and angry reactions provided that you explain why and how the sudden changes in your mood occur.

It is not that you are required to explain yourself.

You and your partner will feel much more comfortable if both of you know what is going on.

Tips for Partners

Be supportive and understanding, but do not treat your partner as if she is ill.

It is quite difficult to get the balance right at times, so you have to be patient and put as much effort in doing things right as possible.

It is a good idea to read about menopause and its symptoms so that you know what your partner is going through. This should help you find the right mode of action.

Avoid asking direct questions about the changes that you notice in your partner.

This is particularly applicable to the why ones. Asking how she is feeling all the time is also not a very good idea.

Just let her share with you when she feels comfortable with this.

If you feel that you need to intervene in a particular situation, you can readily ask what you can do to help make things better.

Be prepared for changes in your sex life, but remember that it will still be satisfactory.

It is important to focus on improving things rather than on viewing the changes in your partner's body as a problem.

You are a life Saver!!

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
