How to Cope with Menopause Vaginal and Bladder Symptoms

Many women feel uncomfortable to talk about menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness and bladder incontinence. However, these can have a serious impact on your overall comfort and wellbeing and your relationship with your partner.

That is why you should definitely consider treatment options. Most remedies are available over the counter while treatment methods can be used privately so you do not have to feel embarrassed in any way.

Vaginal estrogen is perhaps the most effective solution for vaginal dryness.

It comes as a cream and it is applied topically so it does not go into your system causing the same effects and possible side effects like estrogen pills and patches.

Using this form of treatment is highly recommended especially for women who are not on hormonal replacement therapy.

One important thing to note is that results usually come three to four weeks after you start applying the vaginal estrogen cream so patience and persistence are required.

Using a lubricant when you have sexual intercourse is highly recommended. Lubrication is necessary not only for feeling comfortable.

As the vaginal walls get thinner after menopause, the risk of them getting damaged is higher.

Lubrication will prevent this. Water based lubricants are safe and feel natural so they are popular with most menopausal and postmenopausal women.

Flaxseed oil and vitamin E oil taken orally can help with vaginal dryness and with bladder incontinence. These are safe and can work for other symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and mood swings as well.

That is why you should definitely give them a try. You may also consider getting topical creams with flaxseed and/or vitamin E, but the effectiveness of these has not been fully researched.

Kegel exercises are extremely highly recommended for treating both of these menopause symptoms. They are simple to do and do not require much effort.

You can do them comfortably at home. Kegel exercises help in strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

As a result, bladder incontinence is prevented while the vaginal walls become stronger. Dryness is also relieved.

A healthy diet can help greatly with these menopause problems. Reducing your caffeine, alcohol and chocolate consumption should help with bladder incontinence.

Just keep in mind that lower fluid intake can actually cause more serious bladder and kidney problems so it is not a safe and effective solution.

Eating more fiber can help with both symptoms as it reduces the risk of constipation, which can aggravate both.
