Is Your Stress Killing You?

The more sophisticated our technology becomes, the more pressured and stressful life seems to become.

The modern gadgets and conveniences are supposed to create more time for freedom and relaxation, for more leisure time to relax and enjoy life.

So what the heck happened? Why are we more frustrated and and short tempered than ever?

People, who live in large cities, need to commute to work and are frequently stuck on congested highways.

Road rage is becoming a normal everyday occurrence.

Subways are packed with people, like sardines in a can, minus the mustard. Who can breathe in a condition like that?

So it’s not unusual for people to become stressed.

However when you stack stresses, like commuting, having money issues and arguments with your spouse…it’s not unusual to develop a side symptom like diabetes.

Major stress day in and day out can spike blood sugar levels.

When this occurs, the body produces stress hormones like epinephrine and cortisol.

Their function is increase blood sugar levels for energy.

We were designed to have increased blood sugar levels so we could take flight from predators such as large bears or be ready to fight and defend our families from raiders.

Over the centuries, the need for the fight or flight response has been almost eliminated.

We rarely see a grizzly bear riding the subway looking for a juicy human to chow down on.

So while it was necessary to have the ability to raise our blood sugars occasionally, our bodies were never intended to have elevated blood sugars day in and day out.

Now because of the life style a large portion of the population lead, you see increases in diseases such as diabetes.

People, who have major stress and then develop diabetes as a direct or in-direct result, now have to contend with other issues, such as heart attacks, numbness in the limbs or even going blind.

While most people are aware that diabetes can cause the heart issues, very few know that diabetes can affect your blood circulation and cause numbness.

People who lose the ability to have blood circulate properly to their feet will experience numbness.

When a person is unable to feel certain portions of their feet, then a small cut may go undetected and become infected.

The infections are hard to treat and it is possible for the cells in the surrounding areas to suffer from tissue death, which is commonly known as gangrene.

The final result would be to unfortunately go through an amputation.

Stress by itself, is difficult to deal with.

However by not managing extreme stress, a person is opening themselves up to further complications.

I’m sure that not many people relate to their everyday high stress as being something that serious it can lead to death.

Stress needs to be dealt with quickly and efficiently, no delays.

The good news is that there is PLENTY that you can do to lower your stress levels and support your body to better health.

It really is NOT worth the risk to your health to let your stress spiral out of control any longer - it can kill you!!!
