Keeping Birthdays Affordable

One of the holidays children look forward to every year is their own birthdays.

If your child has a birthday coming up, your child has probably already started talking to you about the party.

Children generally talk about who will be invited, what the cake will look like, how many balloons they need and what kind of presents they’ll get.

This can be overwhelming for parents who are on a budget, especially if you have multiple children to think about – it’s not just a once-a-year thing.

Below are some ways you can keep your children’s birthday parties under budget and still be nice.

1. Do the cake yourself.

Bakeries make a lot of money every year from parents who don’t want to make their children’s birthday cakes.

While ordering a cake is convenient, it can be pretty expensive. Save yourself some money and make the cake yourself. Below are some ideas:

• Make a train cake out of two or three small loaf-shaped cake pans.

• Make a flower cake by baking two round layer cakes and cutting one up for the petals.
You can also use cupcakes for the petals.

• Bake a sheet cake use icing to create roadways and decorate it with toy cars, construction trucks or other vehicles little boys like.

• Bake two sheet cakes and decorate them as a computer and keyboard.

2. Limit the number or guests.

It’s possible for your kids to have a fun birthday party without having to invite everyone they know.

Allow your child to invite just a few of his/her closest friends and mail invitations to them.

Make sure you have a note in the invitation not to discuss the party at school because not everyone was invited.

Also, if you are having a family birthday party, ask your family members to help out with the food.

For instance, if someone likes to make cakes or cupcakes ask him/her to do that while you take care of the drinks and maybe another family member brings the ice cream.

3. Work around themes.

When children are young, they often want a themed birthday party, but the theme kits and individual accessories are all pretty expensive to create a fully-themed birthday party.

In order to work around this issue, consider decorating with the theme colors and only purchase one or two items with the specific them on it.

You can also help your child be creative by suggesting other fun theme ideas such as a “masked” party where everyone wears a mask or a “come as you are” party where guests come wearing what they woke up in, etc.

4. Don’t rent a place to host the party at.

Renting a location for a birthday party can easily consume most of your party budget.

Therefore, save even more money and have the party at your own home. If you feel your house isn’t big enough, then ask a relative if you could host the party there.

You may also be able to host the party at a local park or possibly even your church’s community room for free!

There are many more suggestions to show you how to plan DIY children’s birthday parties that are fun and affordable.

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
