Love At the Office

Sometimes office romances are not taken too lightly. In fact, some companies don’t allow a couple to engage in a relationship. You should think through some of the consequences if you find yourself attracted to a co-worker. After all, you really don’t want to be the fuel for ugly for gossip.

We don’t make a conscious decision on whom to fall in love with. In some countries marriages are arranged and the love may follow, but in the U.S. usually there is a chemistry connection the leads to romance.

It really is all occurring in our subconscious. All we can do is decide if we are going to act on the impulses coursing through our bodies.

The first time you read your company handbook you may not have noticed anything about inter-office relationships.

If you find yourself falling for a co-worker you may want to take a look at that book again or talk with your Human Resource manager.

If it is frowned upon, then you and your friend need to decide how to move forward. You don’t want to compromise each other’s job. You may need to cool your jets until one of you can find a new position.

When you first realized you were falling for you co-worker, you probably signaled each other unconsciously.

Perhaps you laid a soft hand on his shoulder or shared a gentle touch at the elevator. So, what do you do when you feel you want to take this relationship to the next level?

Relationships between co-workers often end in marriages that last, but you have to remove some obstacles first.

If you can’t remain in the same work environment you’ll have to share a serious discussion about alternative jobs.

Of course, if you find out that inter-office romances are fine with the company don’t push the rules too far.

Keep professional about your work together and don’t make a scene or carry on in a closet. After all, there may be customers around too!

Just be sensible about your behavior at the office.

Just because you fell in love at the office doesn’t mean you should not pursue this further. Jobs may come and go, but eternal love is a thing to treasure. Don’t run away or hide your love for this person.

Also, if you find that the company doesn’t approve of co-worker relationships talk with your manager to find out if they can help one of you change to another company.

Usually high end manager have connections with similar businesses. Your boss will appreciate your honesty and earnest attempt to comply with the company rules.
