Why Do Men Who Are Not Obese Develop Man Boobs?

Before and After

Before and After

There are a lot more than one reason for a man to develop manboobs or man breasts. And it is not exclusively about being overweight either.

A lot of people associate “man boobs” with obesity, but why do men who aren’t obese develop man boobs?

In fact, it’s possible for men to have gynecomastia, the scientific term for man boobs, is actually a problem that doesn’t necessarily have to do with being overweight.

In actuality, this problem is often caused by hormonal imbalance in men.

No one is exactly sure what causes the hormones to become imbalanced, but when they do there’s a decrease in testosterone- the male hormone.

This can cause the mammary gland in men to overdevelop and take on the appearance of man boobs.

This condition can be very embarrassing, especially for young men who develop this in their teenage years.

There are actually different types of gynecomastia.

Some men only have this condition just under the nipple.

This is sometimes called puffy nipples and is less likely to cause major embarrassment.

Some body builders also develop gynecomastia as a result of steroid use.

Steroids are closely related to male hormones and having an excess of the hormone actually causes a hormonal imbalance that can cause the body to make more estrogen – the female hormone.

Gynecomastia can also be considered hereditary (inherited) or a congenital defect, meaning you’re born with it.

This usually begins to show up when you’re a young man from the ages of 12 to 18.

For many male adolescents, this condition actually corrects itself as they get older.

But for some boys this becomes a problem that requires medical intervention in order to subside.

Finally, there’s asymmetrical gynecomastia.

The asymmetrical version of this problem results in one breast being larger than another.

So while one side is actually more normal looking, the other is larger and resembles more female anatomy.

If you’re experiencing problems with gynecomastia, you’re not alone.

This occurs in as many as 30 percent of men, though people often try not to talk about it openly.

And there is treatment if you have this problem.

The good thing is that having this disorder doesn’t really cause any physical health problems.

However, it could indicate a problem with hormone balance with an underling cause.

In fact, sometimes this is an indicator of testicular cancer, though not often.

However, it can have ramifications for your self-esteem.

The most common and effective treatment is surgery to remove the excess tissue. This provides permanent results.

If you’ve wondered why men who aren’t obese develop man boobs, the answer is hormones.
