Why Moms and Kids Should Learn How to do Pilates

Pilates is becoming so popular that classes are popping up all over the place for not just moms, but moms and babies. Even older children can benefit from Pilates.

The reason is that anyone, of almost any age can do Pilates and it's excellent for flattening the belly, strengthening the core, and improving back pain.

Pilates is an exercise that has over 500 specialized movements using floor mats, machines, or special resistance bands.

You've probably seen exercise balance balls, these are also used in Pilates. In fact, you probably already do some Pilates type exercises without even realizing it.

You can improve your posture while bonding with your baby with specialized classes that are effective. Sometimes these classes incorporate baby massages and baby stretches that are designed to improve the mother and child bond.

Evidence has shown that baby exercises improve the health of a baby and help rid babies of gas, creating a calmer better sleeping baby.

A side effect of attending a Mommy & Baby Pilates class is that you will get to meet and socialize with other moms who care about their health and their baby's health.

Exercise classes are available for older children who are out of the baby stage. Pilates is a fun and healthy way to get kids interested in regular exercise.

Children can develop long and lean "dancers" bodies in a short period of time and if they keep up the habit they'll remain healthy for life.

Since Pilates isn't a hard exercise to do, since you can adjust for an individual's fitness level, children often develop a lifelong love for Pilates.

If you want to participate in mom and child Pilates exercise you can do them in class or via DVD at home. The trick is to keep the movements fun and don't push the child or yourself further than your body can go.

The importance of mindful movements is more important than doing the hardest movements. Do the movements at your own fitness level and encourage your child to do so as well.

Focus on breathing properly throughout the movements as well as form. For older children it's a good idea to talk about why you want to exercise together.

Exercise is good for you, keeps you fit, helps your immune system, and keeps you at a normal weight. With children it is best not to talk too much about body weight but instead do the things that prevent obesity like eating right.

Setting a good example is far more important than mentioning a child's weight. You are the one, after all, in control most of the time about what gets put on the dinner table.
