Why You Should Choose Affiliate Marketing?

Over the last decade there has been a change in the mindset of people wanting to earn or increase their income. Originally the only options were to find new jobs or start your own brick and mortar business, but the internet has opening up a whole new world of opportunities for those willing to try something new.

Whilst there are hundreds of opportunities that can be expanded on there is no question that affiliate marketing is proving to be one of the most popular.

There are a number of reasons as to why this is the case, but the basic ones are that there is very little outlay to get started, no great technical knowledge is required and it’s just not that complicated. Hence the perfect business for those that don’t have any background or experience.

So What is Affiliate Marketing?

Simplistically affiliate marketing is where you as an affiliate marketer promote a merchant or vendors products or services to the public. When someone clicks on your link and is directed to the merchant’s website and buys from them, you get a commission on the sale.

From an affiliate marketers perspective there are many advantages, no managing of products or stock, no dealing with customers and invoices and no responsibility towards making the sale other than directing the prospective customer in the right direction.

How To Get Started

If you think this is something you might enjoy it’s fairly easy to get started. You can choose to sign up with several affiliate programs that manage merchants looking for affiliates to promote their products or even find a private program and work with a merchant one on one. Just do a search for affiliate programs and have a look through the results. Many affiliate companies pay once a month using PayPal or direct deposit – depending on the size of the company and its location.

Once you have registered as an affiliate it’s time to consider what you want to promote and start doing some research on keywords around the products you have chosen. You can do this using the free Google keywords tool. This will give you some indication as to how many times your keyword is searched and how competitive the niche is, which you need to use as an indicator as to whether it will be worthwhile or too hard to pursue that particular niche.

When you have your product names and keywords, you will need to register a domain, purchase hosting and setup your website to promote your niche. Many of the larger merchants will provide you with banners, images and your affiliate link (this is needed for you to get credit for any eventual sale) to put in your website. It’s important to write unique and original content when promoting your product as Google will give a lot more credibility to valuable content as opposed to regurgitated articles.

Once you have your site setup its time to start getting some backlinks to get yourself on the front page of Google, or at least that’s where you should be aiming to be to get maximum traffic for your keywords. Building backlinks is beyond the scope of this article but there are many free tutorials and videos on the internet to walk you through the process.

On a final note whilst affiliate marketing is the ideal online business you need to keep in mind that it is a business and needs to be treated as such. You will need to put in a bit of work to get started so don’t give in if things don’t happen overnight – just be persistent.

Warning! Affiliate Marketers Do Not Fall into this Costly Trap

There’s no denying that affiliate marketing can be a very profitable source of income and you can totally change and improve your lifestyle by mastering the art of marketing properly. However, for every successful marketer you will find 10 more unsuccessful ones, and if those 10 had just taken a bit of time to learn the ropes properly they could have saved themselves a lot of money and heartache.

Many people are attracted to affiliate marketing after reading the hype and promises about making easy money with just a few mouse clicks or by following this or that system, or buying the latest program touted as the solution to instant riches. The reality is that if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Yes, you can make a lot of money in affiliate marketing, but it is like every other business it requires some commitment to effort and hard work, particularly in the early days whilst you are establishing yourself. Once you get a regular income rolling in you can outsource a lot of the routine stuff but in those early days you need to be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in yourself.

Even though you may have money to invest from the beginning, it’s still a good idea to do the early work yourself, otherwise how are you going to know what works and what doesn’t? Unfortunately once you set yourself up as an affiliate marketer and sign up to a few forums and newsletter subscriptions you will find your email box starts to get bombarded on a daily basis with all the latest offers and promises.

They will promise you the world and quite often they are extremely compelling, leading you to believe your problems will be over when you buy what is offered, but trying to purchase every “shiny toy” that comes your way is just asking for trouble and certainly not healthy for your wallet. Do not fall into this trap.

Before jumping into anything it’s a good idea to learn as much as you can first. There are lots of good forums like the Warriors marketing forum where you can get advice and help for free. You will also find a number of blogs with guidelines and help to get started. Because whilst there are a lot of rogues out there after your money there are also a number of genuine marketers that are willing to pass on the benefit of their experience and provide some guidelines for you to follow.

If you take the time to learn about affiliate marketing, how it works and how to make it work for you, you will end up reaping the benefits, maybe not as fast as you originally had expected but it won’t have cost you a fortune and got you into debt to get yourself on the right path.

On a final note you need to be persistent, sometimes it takes a while to start seeing any profits, but if you stick with it and learn from your mistakes as you go along, you will reap the benefits.
