Editor’s Note by Helene Malmsio

November is an interesting time here in Australia, with Spring usually wreaking havoc on our gardens and any plans for outdoor fun, changing from heatwaves to chilling cold so fast it gives me whiplash!

And of course, everyone starts thinking about Christmas and the Holiday festivities that will be starting soon, and also fretting about all the undone things, the goals not achieved, and beginning to feel the stress and disappointment of a not living up to our hopes.

Last month we talked about some stress management strategies to help you feel better about this time of year, and this month we'll look at how you can help yourself with some strategies to balance yourself better in all the areas of your life.

Do you mindfully take steps regularly to improve your Body Mind Spirit balance? Hopefully you will find some useful suggestions in here that you will put to good use.

O.K. Lets begin with this edition's Power Tips report for you... ENJOY!

"Level Up with a Mind-Body Makeover"

Almost anyone has what it physically takes to get in great shape, but not everyone does it. What's the difference between those that succeed and those that fail?

For almost everyone it's found right between the ears. Your mindset is critical to getting the results you want in all areas of your life.

But especially for hardcore fitness, it's important that you have the right mindset to get you to the next level.

It may sound overwhelming to change your mindset, but it doesn't have to be if you follow these simple steps.

Conduct an Analysis on Your Current State

Just as you would with any problem, it's important to get a good picture of the problem before you can actually make beneficial changes. You want to assess where you are right now with both your mind and your body.

First, where are you physically? Is your weight where you'd like it to be? Do you feel strong? Or do you have some extra flab to get rid of? Do you feel like your muscles aren't what they used to be?

If you've been physically fit before, you know what it takes to get there. What's wrong with your body right now? What would you like to change? These are all questions to ask when you're performing a mind-body assessment.

But the most important thing to assess is your mindset. There are two types of mindsets - fixed and growth. It's crucial to know where you stand between these two types.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you consider your current mindset:

* Do you believe that your intelligence is something basic that can't be changed?
* Do you think that you can learn new things, but you can't really change your intelligence?
* Do you agree that no matter how much intelligence you have, you can change it?
* Do you believe you can make substantial changes in your intelligence?

The first two questions are related to a fixed mindset. When you have a fixed mindset, you limit your abilities.

You believe that you have something to prove about who you are rather than realizing you can develop talent and intelligence.

With a growth mindset, you believe that you can develop talent and increase your intelligence through serious effort, hard work, and commitment. This type of mindset is what drives most people who accomplish great things in their lives.

Is your mindset limiting you? It's important that if you have a fixed mindset that you work on strategies to switch that into a growth mindset.

Knowing that anything is possible through hard work and dedication will help you reach your goals.

Set New Goals for Your New Life

Setting goals is the best way to make change. Without goals, you'll be moving through life haphazardly and letting anything happen. Unfortunately, that usually lends itself to not accomplishing very much.

Very few people stumble onto success. Setting goals can help you target your efforts toward reaching your dreams. So this is a time to think big! What is that you want for yourself?

For example, you might set a goal to lose weight and reach a specific number on the scale. You might have the dream of being strong and being able to lift a specific amount of weight.

You might even want to perform a high-endurance event - such as a marathon or triathlon. You may want to have more confidence and finally land that dream job in your career field.

You can make anything happen with the right goals. When setting goals, it's important to write them down. Having a written list of goals makes them more concrete and can help you achieve them more successfully.

You need to be specific when you set your goals as well. Your goals need to be measurable. For example, if you want to run a marathon you need to add something measurable to that goal.

It could be to run a marathon within the next calendar year. But leaving it open ended will make it hard to know if you're on track.

You should also make sure that you set goals based on performance instead of results you can't control.

For example, you might have a goal to lose 30 pounds. But so many elements go into the number on the scale that you may be very fit and strong, but not reach that goal.

Instead, make your goal about working out daily for a specific amount of time. No matter what the scale says, you can always reach a goal based on things you can control.

You'll want to set some big goals to reach your dreams in your new life, but it also helps to set small goals along the way.

Setting a goal that you can reach in a week or a month can give you a taste of success along the way.

This strengthens your growth mindset and gives you more momentum to keep going. For example, you could set a goal to follow a strict nutrition program for one week.

When you meet the goal take time to celebrate and reward yourself with something like a massage, a movie, or anything else you enjoy that won't sabotage your program. Stay away from food rewards that can take you away from your goals.

Commit to Change Permanently

Anytime you set goals, there are factors that pop up and make your goals more challenging. You'll have to be committed to your goals so that these common problems don't get in the way of your success.

Let's look at a few of the most common challenges people face when they're working toward serious goals.

Time: Time is always a difficult factor when you're talking about a fitness program that can take hours a day. But to reach your goals, you're going to have to make them a priority and they're going to take your time.

Some solutions include scheduling your workout time into your day. You want to treat it as you would any other appointment you have with a client, colleague, or VP.

You're committing to make time for your goals knowing that they'll give you back more than you invest in the end.

Pressure: In this case, we're talking about pressure from those who aren't onboard with your goals. There's always someone standing on the sidelines who doesn't believe in what you're doing.

They may not be supportive and may even say things that are very negative about your fitness or career commitments.

Remember what you learned about a fixed versus growth mindset?

These people are usually those with a fixed mindset that have trouble understanding your growth. You may even find that you have friends or family members who actively work to sabotage your efforts.

It will take a strong resolve to avoid the pitfalls that can come from this type of pressure. To solve this problem you'll have to be very assertive about your goals and your activities.

You may even need to avoid some people who are toxic and getting in the way of your success, though that's not necessary for everyone. Most people respond well to assertiveness and boundaries.

Financial: Financial pressure is a very real obstacle for many people. In order to get to the level that you're dreaming of it's going to take quite a financial commitment.

That may mean foregoing other luxuries that you're used to having in your life - or that your family members are used to having. You'll need to make your fitness goals part of your personal budget as a line item.

This is a commitment that will take some resources away from other areas of your budget.

But the investment is one that you're willing to make in order to reach the goals you've set for yourself and achieve the growth you seek.

In the end, if you have the right mindset and you're committed to your goals, it becomes easier and easier to deal with issues that are threatening to stand in your way and you can experience tremendous growth.

Educate Yourself About Your Options and Tools

As you work to reach your goals, it's important to educate yourself.

Knowledge is power and is the first step toward action. Depending on your personal goals, your process may vary.

If, for example, you want to be able to run a marathon, you'll want to get more information about what you need to do to train for one. You might get books on marathon training.

You might also interview experts who have run marathons and find out what they did to prepare. You might talk to a fitness trainer to evaluate your current fitness level and what it will take to get to the next level.

You might sign up for a boot camp or training program that gives you the tools you need. Tools are there to help you reach your goals, but you don't want to waste time and money on the wrong ones.

So begin with educating yourself about what's out there. Look at the tools and programs that can help you and check out the reviews if there are any.

Then make strategic decisions about what will work best to get you to your goals quickly.

As you research you'll find tricks and tips that help you get the most out of your investment of time, energy, and money. Some tools are available, but not worth your effort.

Pick and choose the ones that are really worth it. Being strategic can pay off in big results. Some tools to research and consider include:

* Videos/DVDs related to your goal
* Online products such as eBooks, courses, and reports
* Equipment that's specifically targeted to help you reach your goals and do so safely
* Expert instruction from a trainer or coach related to your goal
* Boot camps, conferences, and other gatherings that allow you to glean new information and skills
* Community clubs and organizations that have similar interests

When it comes to tools and strategies, look at every possible aspect and don't be afraid to think outside the box. Some of the best tools for setting goals may seem revolutionary.

Break the Glass Ceiling Each and Every Day

You've examined your mindset, set goals for your life, committed to make changes in spite of obstacles, and educated yourself about the options and tools to help you succeed.

Now it's time to put one foot in front of the other and take action! This means doing something every day that is a new achievement. Every day, push yourself a little further than you did the day before.

If you're afraid to get out of your comfort box, do it anyway. Courage isn't about being comfortable - it's about being faced with something difficult and pushing past your fear to do it afraid.

Every day will bring you opportunities for moving forward toward your dreams. If you have big fitness goals, you may find that choices you make in the office actually help you to build confidence to move forward on your exercise challenges.

Any challenge that you can achieve is going to enrich your life and help you to become the person you want to be. They all lead to helping support you in a growth mindset.

This is the place where stop daydreaming about your life and start living it in a way that's intentional and will lead to results. When you find new challenges and obstacles, you have a choice.

You can either allow fear and doubt to keep you from moving forward or you can summon all the courage and energy you have to break through those barriers and shatter the glass ceiling that are holding you back.

Each day, wake up and decide what you'll achieve that day. Some days those achievements may be small, but the results of achieving them add up to big changes.

And other days you'll recognize that you're going to achieve something very important that will have a huge impact. Whether big or small, don't let a day go by that you don't do something that pushes you out of your comfort zone.

It's only in that uncomfortable place that you can learn and grow. Fear of that discomfort is what keeps people from achieving their dreams and leaves them sitting on the sidelines watching others have what they truly want.

Breaking the glass ceiling can be scary, can cause discomfort, and can be an intimidating task. But once you've broken through, the strength and power you gain will make all the effort worthwhile.

As you work toward your goals and dreams, remember that your mind is really your most powerful tool. Your commitment and determination will get you to the finish line.

Look for opportunities to challenge yourself and to grow.

Healthy Power Tip:

Cold & Fever

Washing your hands regularly, keeping fingers away from your face and getting enough sleep are your best bets for preventing a cold!

Considering a flu shot? They are about 50-70% effective in preventing flu viruses.

Steam in a bathtub or shower can help receive cold symptoms.

Don’t want to take medicated cough drops when sick? Simple hard candy can help relieve cough symptoms.

Prevent the spread of illnesses by never sneezing or coughing into your hands. The next time you touch a surface like a door knob or telephone, you’ll pass on those germs.

The best way to prevent germs from spreading when coughing or sneezing is by doing it into a tissue and throwing it out. If you don’t have a tissue handy, cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm / elbow, instead of your hands.

Decongestants can increase blood pressure, so if you have any issues check with your doctor before taking a decongestant.

If you use a nasal spread for congestion, consider a saline based one instead of a medicated one.

Got a fever? Drink more fluids, get rest and try some acetaminophen to ease the pain.

"Law of Attraction Do’s and Don’ts You MUST Know! "

Anyone who’s familiar with the law of attraction knows that the concept is really simple. You just need to visualize in your mind what you truly want and the universe will go out of its way to manifest it for you.

* Sounds simple enough, right?

Yes. It’s simple in theory, but execution of this law is extremely difficult. As human beings, we are emotional creatures and our thoughts and actions are swayed and affected by the vagaries of life.

The law of attraction, however, demands unwavering faith and optimism in the face of the impossible. It requires you to be that ray of positive light that pierces through the dark clouds of negativity and disbelief.

Getting to this stage will require immense practice and mindfulness at all times. You’ll need to work hard at it. This is no walk in the park.

Instead of giving you two lists of do’s and don’ts, we’re going to explore each point in detail because in most cases, a don’t arises when you don’t do what you’re supposed to do.

While the law of attraction has worked for millions of people, they’re still the minority. Most people who give it a try will fail miserably and will not even attract a walnut, much less wealth.

Let’s see why this happens.

* Specificity

In order to manifest what you want in life, you need to first know EXACTLY what you want. The universe doesn’t operate in shades of grey. It needs you to be specific.

If you want to manifest a car, you need to know what model it will be, what color it will be and if it will be new or pre-owned.

Yes… you need that level of detail even if it’s just visualization. When you truly know what you want, that’s half the problem solved. Do be specific. Don’t be vague.

* Emotion is everything

Once you know what you want, you MUST act as if it’s already yours. Feel the joy and excitement of having achieved/received what you were visualizing for. Emotion is everything.

With the law of attraction, emotion is the key that unlocks the door to whatever your heart desires. So many people start off on a positive note and feel excited.

However, when what they want doesn’t appear fast, they lose the excitement and hope.

They end up going through the motions without any ‘heart’… and nothing ever happens. You must have unwavering faith and feel it in every cell in your body.

Do have faith and emotion during your visualization sessions. Do not engage in monotonous routine.

* Action is the foundational key to success

This is the part that the movie, ‘The Secret’, failed to mention. Attraction = attract + action.

Too many people believe that visualization alone will get the job done. Nothing could be further from the truth.

American novelist, J.G. Holland, once said, “God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into its nest.”

Even if you’re not a religious person, you’ll understand the gist of the quote. You must do whatever you can to make your dreams come true. Visualize, have faith and take action.

When you do whatever you can to get what you want, the universe will open doors for you and give you opportunities that you never thought you’d get.

It may seem happenstance, but this is the law of attraction rewarding you for your efforts.

Do be a person of action. Do not be idle.

* Attitude of gratitude

As tough as it may be, you should always be grateful for what you have. You may not like the situation you’re in, but strive to be thankful for the blessings that you do have.

If you truly looked, you’d realize that you have a lot to be grateful for. Your eyesight, good health, a home to live in, etc.

We often feel dissatisfied because we believe that we’ve not gotten what we deserve. Or we look at others who seem better off than us and we envy and crave what they have.

The law of attraction requires you to be grateful for what you do have. Then it will reward you with more. That is just the way it is. The more you complain and groan about your situation, the worse it will get.

You can’t attract positive things with a negative mindset. Do be grateful and have patience. Do NOT complain or hate your life.

* Repetition

Author Robert Collier said it succinctly when he made this quote – “Constant repetition carries conviction.”

The law of attraction requires you to visualize at least once or twice a day. This is a tricky situation.

You need to visualize as and when you can with faith. But you shouldn’t do it repeatedly because you lack faith.

There’s a difference here. You may visualize once a day with belief and faith and it’ll be much more beneficial than doing it twenty times because you’re unhappy that you haven’t gotten what you wanted yet.

You cannot rush the universe. Do be consistent, but avoid vain repetition.

To sum it up, the law of attraction works, but you’ll have to develop self-control and be in charge of your own thoughts. If you can master yourself, you’ll master the law and manifest miracles in your life.

It all starts with you. That’s the real secret.

What's New?

Well, last month was interesting. I have managed to upload the last of my 2020 Planners and diaries to Amazon for the time being, and they are available to you.

The range of organizers vary from 6x9" to 8.5 x 11" and are in both weekly view by the hour, to a more relaxed journal planner that allows for tons of spaces to stick post-it notes and pictures as well as make lists etc.

Hopefully I've created styles that will suit most needs, and there is a good variety of cover designs as well as some of the most popular designs from the past 2 years of publishing Diaries.

All of these are available on both Amazon and Lulu for you to check out!

For some reason Amazon does not show my current 2020 Planners until about page 9-10 of the catalog pages on my Author page, so please keep clicking through until you see them!

Amazon

Lulu.

This month I plan to design some more in the scrap journal series I started a couple of months ago. The Junk Journal book signatures in paperback have proved to be popular which is a big relief.

So, these are various themed slim paperbacks that have the first 10 pages beautifully illustrated, and the back pages are filled with scraps and cards and holders etc that you cut out and glue into the book pages along with your own scraps and lace and journaling paper.

I have also been making my own handmade junk journals this month to help repurpose all that old stationary and decoupage images from years ago, and I can tell you they are really HARD WORK to compile and make pretty! I didn't think it would be so hard when I began, so I sure hope I can sell some of them on eBay and at the local markets.

Then I created a simple "I am Grateful for..." lined journal in pretty Oriental themed covers that I designed. They are slim books easy to carry around, and have pretty Cherry Blossom images on each page that you can color in or doodle with.

And then I expanded on the 365 Dated Page a Day Journal Planners and added famous quotes to the top of each page.

So, if you like to have a daily inspiration this book is for you. The pages can be used for long journals every day, or be split up into Line-a-day multi-year journal on each page.

If you enjoy journaling and goalsetting/tracking along with financial planning, meal planning, and a weekly scheduler, you may like my monogrammed 90 day perpetual planners!!

And once again, thank you so very, very much to everyone who has invested in one of my books... I really appreciate your trust, and know that you will love the book!

And p.s. Any reviews posted on Amazon and Lulu would be hugely appreciated as well!!

Do get yourself a beautiful and inspiring Diary or Planner. Yes, like one of the ones I have designed for you.

They work. They make you happy. Use them.

Click HERE or on the banner images above to see the full range, as I keep adding new designs every few days... and if you have the time, please do tell me what you would like to see included, so that I can meet your requirements!

Lessons I've Learned

Some are familiar, but many are new (at least to me) and they all make me smile. Enjoy!

Now that I'm 'older' (but refuse to grow up), here's what I've discovered:

1. I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.

2. My wild oats have turned into prunes and All Bran.

3. I finally got my head together; now my body is falling apart.

4. Funny, I don't remember being absent minded...

5. All reports are in; life is actually is unfair.

6. If all is not lost, where is it?

7. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.

8. Some days you're the dog; some days you're the hydrant.

9. I wish the buck stopped here; I sure could use a few...

10. Kids in the back seat cause accidents.

11. Accidents in the back seat cause kids.

12. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.

13. The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you're in the bathroom.

14. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my knees.

15. When I'm finally holding all the cards, why does everyone decide to play chess?

16. It's not hard to meet expenses... they're everywhere.

17. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the length and depth.

18. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I'm here after.
