Get to Know Your Window planter

Driving down a street means you will see at least one window planter in a window. It’s true, I tried it today. Spring seems to mean planters come out of the garage and back out for the public to view them. Showing you that you need to get out and do it.

With the spring weather, more and more people are bringing out their flowers and tools and starting to dig back into the earth.

Not all window planter boxes sit in or on the windows, some are placed on the ground by the house while others line them up their driveways.

When your children are young add a trellis to the planter beside their window, with a small rose bush on it.

As they grow, so will the bush and once they hit teen years it won’t be so easy to sneak out of their room at night. I know, my father did this to me.

Add a touch of home to your landscaping. A window planter is great for small yards or houses/apartments that don’t have any room to have a garden.

Many people living in apartment buildings have one in their kitchen so they can still enjoy the outdoors and grow herbs for their cooking needs. Small cherry tomato plants grow really well in the sunlight, which it’ll get plenty in a window planter.

Petunias and Geraniums would add some beautiful color to your window planter, not to mention a great view looking outside your home.

From the straight wooden planter to the lattice borders, there is sure to be a window planter that will spruce up your yard.

Take a couple window planter boxes and line them up around your yard and plant small shrubs in them. There are a few different types of planter boxes you can find: plastic, wood and metal.

Plastic - These are light enough that they can be mounted to your house to secure them. One company is the Windsor planter, this are lightweight plastic and will last throughout the years.

Wooden - Wooden planters can be made by yourself or you can buy them. You can mount them to a wall or sit them on the edge of the window. If there is no edge you may want to leave it on the floor.

Wrought Iron - This planter is sure to stick around for years to come and it’s not going to fall off when the first child hangs on it. This isn’t the metal that bends at the slightest touch.

Add more dimension to your sidewalk by adding a few wooden planters. Pansies and other small flowers look great sitting in these with a little bit of greenery sliding down the box. Gardening is very therapeutic to some people and it can help lower your stress level. Whether your window planter is inside or outside you should have fun creating it just the way you like. Imagine all the colors they’ll bring when it blooms.
