How to Take Care of Chores at Home With a Positive Attitude

Chores might not ever be fun, but they can be less painful. We all have things to do around the house. If you have to do chores, why not enjoy them as much as possible?

A clean house is just one of the benefits of doing your chores. You can also gain a sense of accomplishment, bond with your family, and learn how to be mentally present.

Get more satisfaction from your household chores with these techniques:

1. Make a list.

Know what you’re getting yourself into each day. Be mentally prepared for your chores. Have a clear picture of where the finish line lies.

Once you have a list, consider the best order to tackle those tasks. For example, it might be easier to mop the kitchen floor when no one else is at home.

2. Set a timer.

Household tasks are a little more fun with a timer. Determine how long it should take to complete a task and see if you can get it done a little quicker.

It makes a game out of a chore. It also focuses your attention, and you’ll work much quicker. See who can vacuum the living room the fastest.

3. Stay present.

Keep your mind on your task. This might seem counter-intuitive. Why would you want to focus on the task instead of daydreaming about being on a beach?

Keeping your mind focused on your work is great practice for every part of your life. It’s mentally relaxing.

It will also help to show you that all manual tasks are essentially the same. You’re standing there and moving your hands.

That’s true whether you’re scrubbing a toilet, washing the dishes, folding laundry, or chopping vegetables. There’s no reason to favor one over another.

4. Remember the benefit of doing the chore.

Avoid thinking about how gross it is to clean the toilet. Remind yourself of how great it will be to use a nice, clean bathroom.

Be happy that your family will have a safe environment to prepare for school or work each day.

Picking up the family room means you’ll have a nice place to watch a movie tonight or to entertain your friends.

5. Congratulate yourself.

Celebrate when you complete a task. Celebrate twice as much when you’re done for the day.

Acknowledge that you made a plan and executed it successfully. Grow the belief that you’re someone that gets things done.

6. Avoid doing too much in one day.

Spread out your chores.

It’s easier to do a little each day than to spend eight hours each Saturday trying to get it all done.

Have a specific time each day you handle your household business.

7. Get help.

Teamwork can make it easier to maintain a positive attitude. Get some help from your family, and the work will get done that much quicker.

Maybe you can find someone to do the tasks that you enjoy the least. In a perfect world, each family member will get to do their favorite task and avoid their least favorite.

Are you excited now about mopping the dining room floor? Maybe you can learn to be!

Enlist some help from your family and work as a team. Make use of a timer and the time will fly by.

You might even have a record board for certain chores but be certain to maintain an acceptable level of quality!

Have a positive attitude and get your household chores done more easily.

How to Move On When You Make a Mistake

If you are like most people, then you have probably lost quite a bit of sleep to ruminating on past mistakes. Everyone does that.

They lay in their bed at night and just as they are about to sleep, they start dwelling on some mistake they made.

Sometimes the mistake was yesterday and sometimes the mistake was a decade ago.

Thankfully, there are a lot of different strategies that you can try to make getting over a mistake a lot easier.

In this article, you will find out a few different ways that you can get over mistakes, no matter how severe.

Look for Some Positives

No matter how severe a mistake is, there is a good chance that it may have some positive aspects to it.

You have to try and look for a silver lining in any mistake and focus on that, instead of the negatives.

A good example of this would be mistakes that cause you to learn something. We all make mistakes, but we also all learn from our mistakes as well.

Focus less on the mistake, and more on what you learned as a result of the mistake.

Look at the Mistake in Context

One thing about humans is that we tend to really overinflate the impact of mistakes in our mind.

Sometimes it can be helpful to try and distance yourself from a mistake and ask yourself “did it really matter in the end?” This happens a lot with social gaffes.

People say the wrong thing to someone and assume that the other person was very offended by it and is thinking about it; however, the reality is often that the person has forgotten about the conversation entirely.

So, it is worth distancing yourself from a mistake and asking if the mistake is really as bad as you are making it out to be.

Do Something to Make Amends

A big reason why so many people dwell on mistakes is that they don’t ever do anything to make up for the mistake.

Making up for the mistake, if that’s possible, can really help you to stop dwelling on it.

Obviously, this doesn’t apply to every mistake, but if you can think of a way to try and repair the damage done by a mistake that you made, that will go a long way towards helping you to overcome the mistake and move on.

The Struggle Can Be the Reward

The average person avoids challenge like he’s avoiding the plague. Struggling isn’t enjoyable, so it’s natural to avoid it as much as possible.

There’s an issue with this strategy: There’s a lot to be gained from struggling.

There are many aspects to humans that are anti-fragile, meaning that stress makes them stronger.

For example:

• Exercise is a stressor that delivers positive benefits.
• Being hot or cold, within reason, is good for your health.
• Fasting is beneficial.

Struggling is similar in that it makes you better than you were before the struggle.

Consider these benefits of struggling:

1. You learn a lot about yourself when you struggle.

You don’t learn a lot about yourself while you’re watching a movie for the fifth time from your couch.

When life is easy, you have a natural tendency to coast. Any struggle is a test of your will, ingenuity, and perseverance.

2. It’s a chance to learn how to use failure.

Struggles often end in “failure.” Failure is a powerful tool when used properly. If you never struggle, you never get to practice using failure to your advantage.

◦ The most successful people fail a lot. They also know how to use failure to come back better and stronger.

◦ You also have the opportunity to learn that failure isn’t as traumatic as you thought.

3. You can learn to persevere.

The average person won’t struggle very hard, or for very long, before giving up. Any challenging time can be used to increase your perseverance.

Success is practically guaranteed if you never give up on your goals.

4. Discipline is required.

To overcome a challenge, discipline is required.

It’s easy to procrastinate when you have to do challenging things. Discipline is needed to do the hard thing.

5. You become mentally stronger.

Struggling can make you stronger psychologically. People that have had an easy life tend to be mentally soft.

Only those that have faced struggles have had the chance to build mental toughness.

Think about someone you know that’s had an easy life. How tough are they?

6. Your self-confidence increases.

Effectively dealing with struggles makes you feel like you can take on the world.

You feel confident and powerful. You gain self-confidence by dealing with adversity.

7. Victory is sweeter.

Easy victories don’t feel meaningful. The more you struggle, the more you appreciate that success.

If you can easily finish a marathon, you just don’t get the same satisfaction as you do when it’s a real struggle to finish the last seven miles.

8. You like yourself more.

Putting up a good fight is great for your self-esteem, especially if things work out in the end.

Just knowing that you were willing to keep going when the average person would’ve given up is a good feeling.

We admire others who persevere through obstacles. You’ll like yourself more when you overcome obstacles, too.

9. Life’s other challenges seem small by comparison.

People that never struggle are stressed by small things. Those that have lived hard lives take everything in stride.

A little struggle now and then can remind you that your everyday life isn’t so bad after all.

Struggling is good for you. The old adage, “that which doesn’t kill me makes me stronger” holds a lot of truth.

When you struggle, you grow and become more capable. It can increase your confidence, mental stamina, and appreciation for life.

Be willing to take on challenges in your life. However, be smart and use your energy wisely. Some struggles are more worthwhile than others.

Find meaningful struggles in your life to conquer and you’ll enjoy the benefits!
