5 Ways to Alleviate Stress at Home or in the Office

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that in order to alleviate stress, you don’t have to take a full day off to relax from work. You can do these five methods anywhere to make your life less stressful.

One way to relax anywhere is to do some deep breathing. If you’re feeling anxious, it’ll make your heartbeat race, which only propels your stress levels. By taking multiple deep breaths, you’ll slow your heart rate down, which will make you feel less anxious and antsy.

Another form of stress relief that can be practiced pretty much anywhere is meditation. In order to lower your stress, you’ll need to stop thinking about whatever it is that was making you anxious and just center your attention to your steady breathing and mental state.

Make sure your mind is totally clear so that once you go back to your everyday activities, you feel much calmer and peaceful. You could also get in some exercise to dull your worries.

Exercising releases endorphins, which are the hormones in your body that make you happier. Even if you’re at work, you could just get up for a few minutes and walk around your office space or around the building.

If you have time at home, you should try some yoga. Yoga is an easy and non-physically demanding exercise method that works for any age. Yoga is partly based on exercise and partly based on mindfulness.

Getting in a mindset where you’re focusing on how your body and mind feels instead of work or other stress sources will benefit your mood. One way to make your mood improve without doing something physical for yourself is to do something kind for someone else.

This could be a friend, family member, a coworker, boss, or even a stranger. Any act of kindness, small or large, will make you so much happier just by making someone else happy.

Being able to improve someone’s day may seem like a small thing to you, but it could seriously make a world of a difference to someone else. Decrease stress by socializing with people who make you happy.

Hanging around your friends or family will improve your mood, especially if you’re laughing during your conversations. Laughing is obviously a way to make you feel happy, but it even decreases the amount of stress hormones you have coursing through your body.

Life can sometimes seem too busy for you to be able to take care of your mental health. Having a healthy mindset is one of the most important things you can have, and it only takes a small amount of time to reduce some of your stress.

Don’t Be Afraid to Delegate at Home and in the Office

Many people are too timid to delegate their tasks to others when they’re feeling overwhelmed, but it’s crucial that you speak up and become confident in delegating to others when you feel burdened with too many things in order to alleviate stress and let you be your best at home and in the workplace.

You can give a coworker or team something of yours to handle. If you’re in a higher position than the coworker you’re delegating the task to, you shouldn’t have to ask them to do the work.

However, if you’re in the same position or at a lower position than the coworker you’re giving your task to, then make sure you always ask before you give them your work to refrain from seeming rude and disrespectful.

By giving a coworker some of your work to do, you’re making your workload lighter, therefore letting you do your best in the tasks that you feel like you could handle.

You could also ask your boss if they would be willing to let you do a little less work if you explain to them that you feel stressed out and that the workload isn’t letting you excel in doing your tasks.

If you’re feeling stressed about how messy your home might be, you can always ask your children or spouse to help out with the chores.

Give each family member different tasks to help you get your house under control and organized to a point where you’re not feeling burdened with a stressful amount of clutter.

Different methods to get your family to help out could include making to-do lists for each family member, paying them each a small amount according to how much work they did, or giving everyone a room to complete cleaning before the week is over.

You can also explain to your family that the mess stresses you out and that you would love for them to help. This will make them want to help out if they know how you feel, because no one wants their family to feel overwhelmed.

If your workload or chores seem too overwhelming for you, you can always delegate your tasks to others – and that includes outsourcing it if necessary.

You could hand over your obligations to someone you hire for projects or tasks at home and free up your time.

Don’t be shy and let your responsibilities overwhelm you and stress you out too much by not speaking up.

By doing this, you’re reducing your stress levels and making sure that you’re doing your best quality of work inside the workplace and in your home.
