Have you ever had someone at a bar approach you with the question‘What’s Your Sign, Baby?’
Well, it is a classic pick-up line, but knowing your own and any potential partner's zodiac sign can be very helpful in understanding each others traits and characteristics.
Astrological compatibility in terms of romance and friendship is determined primarily by the position of Venus in an individual’s astrology chart at the time of birth.
The planet Venus represents love, passion, sensuality, beauty, and our social interactions – both romantically and platonically.
Therefore, what we are attracted to in a partner or a friend can be discerned by the location of Venus. Conversely, it can also be determined what kind of individual the person attracts.
The position of Venus in one’s birth chart indicates whether we prefer emotional closeness, how much intimacy we are comfortable with, and the amount of affection we desire or are able to express.
Compatibility exists when one’s personality, mannerisms, and characteristics are in harmony with another’s. For example, an emotional, nurturing Cancer would likely clash with an Aries’ aloofness and need to dominate the relationship.
A Cancer would be better off with a stable, solid Taurus, who values home and family as much as Cancer, and who would appreciate Cancer’s expressions of love and devotion.
When determining whether two individuals are compatible, the Elements are also to be considered. Fire, Water, Air, and Earth signs are generally most compatible with those of their own Element, but the elements may also complement or conflict with each other.
Consider how the elements interact in nature to determine sign compatibility.
The Water signs – Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are complemented by Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
Earth supports and holds Water, and Water, in turn, nurtures the Earth. But Water signs and Fire Signs – Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius – create a lot of steam when combined.
Fire can be put out by Water, but Fire can also cause Water to evaporate – each has the potential to destroy the other. Water signs and Air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) combined are also prone to conflict.
A Water sign’s need for security and stability can quickly become exasperated with Air’s need for freedom and variety, and vice versa. In nature, water and air interact to create storms that can be as violent as a tornado or hurricane.
Fire signs are best matched with Air signs. Air lets Fire breath, and in turn Fire feeds its energy into Air. A creative, energetic Fire sign meshes well with Air’s need for intellectual fodder and excitement.
Fire’s capriciousness and lack of caution conflict with the Earth signs’ consistency, calm demeanor, and practicality. In short, Fire scorches Earth, but Earth’s persistence will always outlast Fire.
While the position of Venus on the astrology chart and the Element associated with a particular sign are good indicators of compatibility, they are not written in stone.
Each concerned individual must take the entire astrology chart into consideration in determining how they will relate and react to one another.
