Five Things to Avoid When Affiliate Marketing

All of us try to think positively and avoid negative thinking in our lives. There is a correct approach as well as a wrong approach to affiliate marketing. This article is pointed at a few of the negatives --- pointing out five things you should avoid in your affiliate marketing.

1. Stay Focused and don't try to do every type of affiliate marketing.

If you don't stay focused and divide your attention you will not do any one thing well. It is difficult to do article marketing when you are also trying to set up membership sites or design blogs for other people. A better alternative is to choose one type of affiliate marketing and stick to it until you start making money.

2. Avoid "shiny objects".

When you are working on line there are lots of distractions. Since you are already on your computer, it is easy to check your emails and be suddenly presented with all kinds of get rich schemes, new software, new SEO techniques, etc. These are all "shiny objects" that you do not want to pay attention to.

You will get better results by simply setting aside 30 minutes a day to check your emails and limiting yourself to that time only. Once you start working on a project.

3. Do not believe everything you read.

This is actually a matter of good sense. Do you really think every person who claims to have made a million dollars in affiliate marketing is telling the truth? Sadly, that is not the case.

When you need advice on how to do something new online, check some forums that have seasoned affiliate marketers who are willing to answer questions or give opinions without trying to sell you something.

4. Avoid selling.

The reason selling is a bad idea is because people do not like to be "sold to." Do you like to open an email and be hit with "You need to buy this product because it will make you a million dollars, it's be best product there is...?" Of course you don't. No one does.

Instead simply talk about a product and provide people with good information. Be honest and discuss both the pros and cons of products you feature on your sites.

5. Don't give up.

The people who are successful in affiliate marketing are the people who keep working at it.

I was recently looking at a sales page for an affiliate marketing product. This page has been online since 2010. On the page are 15 endorsements, each from other affiliate marketers who provided a link to their respective website. I clicked all 15 links --- only three were still active. I assume the rest of the folks had given up.

Do not forget that persistence is what pays off in the end. Choose a specific type of affiliate marketing, stay focused and avoid the shiny things. Don't get distracted by empty promises, and learn good marketing techniques.

You can make a good living in affiliate marketing. Don't give up.

How To Start With Affiliate Marketing

If you're looking to earn some money online, chances are you encountered the term "affiliate marketing". This is how it works: with your own websites and marketing activities, you send customers to the vendor of a certain product or service. Thanks to a special code included in the links you'll publish on your websites to promote that product, the vendor will know which customers come from you. If they buy, you are rewarded a commission. The customer pays exactly the same price, whether or not he landed the vendor's website directly or via affiliate links on your websites.

Starting with affiliate marketing is easy, but making a decent living from it may be a long term endeavor. Anyway, the sooner you start, the earlier you can see additional income coming in. Affiliate marketing can be done as as secondary activity to your main job. A couple of hours a day in the evening will get you started all right.

You'll need to have some websites of yours, where to publish your affiliate banners and links. If you don't want to spend money, you can set up free blogs on WordPress.com or on Blogger. If you learn the ropes and decide you have potential for developing it into a real business, you can go ahead and buy your own domain names and hosting later.

In order to find what exactly to promote, you can join affiliate networks such as Commission Junction or Shareasale. There are many of them. Just join one to see what everything is about, then you can search for others. When you join, you'll most probably need to already have a website, because they will ask you to see it. Make a free blog, put up a few posts and you're done.

After you get accepted, you'll see a list of merchants and products. For each merchant, you'll see what commission they give to affiliates. This can be anything between 2% and 50%. The art of affiliate marketing is to find those offers that pay well and are very easy to sell because people want them already.

Choose the merchants you want to promote and apply to their programs. Some of them will accept you on the spot, others will give you an answer in a few days. After you get approved, you have access to all banners and links. Browse through them and choose the ones you like. You'll be provided a line of code which you need to copy and paste on your website, in order to have that banner or link displayed and ready for your visitors to click on.

Knowing what to write to attract people and to rank high in search engines is actually what makes the difference between success and failure. If you want results, you'll need to learn the basics of SEO and of internet marketing. Bringing traffic to your websites is the most challenging part of affiliate marketing. If you succeed and your blog becomes popular, you'll be able to make money in more than one way out of it. Affiliate marketing is only one possibility.

You are a life Saver!!

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
