Make your planter box a beautiful work of art. Most houses come equipped with their very own planter box. These boxes can be found along the side of your sidewalk leading up to your door, be below a bedroom window in the front yard or a small space around the driveway. If your property did not come with one you can still add them to it.
A large planter box looks a lot like a watering trough and a small one looks like an box with no lid. There is a box that will fit any size you need for your house. Large planters can sit on a window ledge overlooking everything. Or you can bracket them to the wall adding the look of a window box.
If you don’t feel like going out and buying a planter box you can make your own. Create your own recycled planter box . A recycled box can be made out of any material that you have and no longer need. Now, you have the perfect excuse as to why you never tossed them.
Take your child’s abandoned sandbox and make it into a garden. Your child no longer uses it, so why not have some fun with it. After all, you did buy it for someone to have fun in it. First, clean out the sandbox of old sand and any other debris that might be in it. Once you have it all cleaned out, drill a couple of holes into the bottom of it. This will help to make sure it drains. Put a layer of wood chips or small stones on the bottom, layer that with soil and plant your flowers. You now have your own portable sandbox planter box. Worried about your children digging your plants up? Make them one to keep busy with.
You can make a smaller box by using a wipe box with the same instructions. This would make a small herb garden that you could place in your kitchen window. If you are really crafty and like making things out of wood you can create your own planter box for the front of your house, toss in a few rose bushes or marigolds and you will light up your yard. Try getting a bit more advanced and make a long box with your family name on it. Get fancy or keep it simple, this can be used as a landmark for all to see.
For those that rent - If you are renting check with your landlord to see if you can use brackets on the outside of the home. Most of the time a landlord will say if it improves the property they have no problem. But any damage you will have to pay for.
No one can run your flower bed over with the lawn mower now, at least not if you have them protected with a planter box. If they do, you’ll know it was on purpose. Start building your box today.
