Quick Tips for Setting Health and Fitness Goals

Goal setting is an important part of life; whether it's for personal projects, in a business or with your health and physical fitness. Goals give you something to work towards and strive for. More people reach success when they set a goal than those who don't set goals.

Goals help you stay focused. Without setting a goal you will basically aim at nothing and generally hit it.

If you've ever wondered how some people accomplish so much in their lives, more than like they are goal setters.

They are constantly working towards something, unlike people who just let things happen, goal setters are making things happen.

If you've never been one who sets goals, don't worry. This is something you can start at any age and make it a habit.

Here are some tips to help you get started.

Be realistic, or just beyond, with your goal. Don't start out setting goals that are impossible to reach.

This is especially true if you are new at this goal setting thing. Set a goal that is realistic and attainable.

For example: Let's say you want to lose 30 pounds. Setting a goal of losing it all in a month is unrealistic.

A better goal is to focus on the first ten pounds over the next 30 days.

Yes, it's slower but it's more doable and you're more likely to stick with it.

Once you've lost that ten pounds, set the next goal of another 10 pounds in the thirty days.

Once you get good at setting and keeping smaller goals, then you should start making them a little harder, a little more out of reach so to speak.

For that last ten pounds, you may want to try to lose it in three weeks instead of four.

Setting a two week goal here could be a bit lofty, but if you've reached a point that you're determined and willing to add more exercise in or cut a few more calories out, then go for it.

Just don't kick yourself and give up if you don't make it. Give yourself another week. Also be prepared to hit a plateau.

It happens to everyone and the last ten pounds can be the toughest to get rid of. Stick with your plan.

Don't set goals based on what someone else wants. Make sure your goal resonates with you and is something YOU want.

Too many people go on a diet to please their spouse or significant other. This is not the way to reach goals.

Do it for yourself and set your goals according to what you want to achieve.

Be sure you want it. That's one of the biggest keys to reaching goals is to make sure you really want it. If you only half-heartedly want it, chances are you won't strive for it or reach it.

You need to want it back enough that you're willing to take daily steps to reach it. Be willing to give some things up so you can spend time working on it.

Give up those cookies and chips and snack on fresh fruit instead. For any goal to be attainable you have to want it.

Goals are important in life and in your physical fitness program too. Learn how to set and work towards your goals.

Make sure they are reasonable and doable. Now get busy working on them!
