Reading My Journey With Farrah by Alana Stewart

by Helene Malmsio

This is the story of a long friendship between two beautiful women who led amazing lives and lived them to the hilt.

Farrah Fawcett is an icon... the Charlie's Angels star hit the screens while she was married to The Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Majors.

But then she moved on to Ryan O'Neill and they were in love for the next 30 years.

Alana Steward and Farrah first met when they were both modelling, but became firm friends later when they were both married to famous men, and making their own marks in their careers.

The book My Journey With Farrah by Alana Stewart describes their friendship and includes their other friends like Tina Sinatra, and their cosy, fun, simple times spent enjoying their lives... no idea of what was about to happen.

I think the whole world had the same reaction when we first heard about cancer striking down Farrah.... it just didn't seem POSSIBLE for such a beautiful and gentle person to suffer such a cruel fate.

She just seemed too sweet and caring... even if a bit flaky... she was a truly gentle spirit and simply did not deserve to suffer 3 years of never-ending horrendous and tortuous treatments in US and Germany... it just is not fair.

But life isn't fair... and this book journals the treatments, and the successes and failures, optimism and let downs... basically a diary of the events and the results, as seen through the eyes of best friend Alana.

Alana Steward was also asked by Farrah to video tape the process of fighting this cancer, in the hope that her experiences at the coalface would help other cancer patients, if they could see the reality of treatments and effects that she endured.

But it did not have the happy ending they all hoped for.
This story ended with the death of Farrah, after her long struggle... she fought tooth and nail to the bitter end, bless her.

"In 2006, a test of their friendship arose unlike any other they'd faced: Farrah was diagnosed with aggressive rectal cancer. She was determined to fight, and Alana was determined to help her.

Together, they were relentless in their pursuit of a cure, traveling halfway around the world as they sought every mainstream, alternative, and experimental therapy available.

In all, they spent the better part of the next three years together - Alana by her friend's side as they struggled hand in hand with the unknown. "

A very sad story... I wish it had had a happier ending to it.

"Writing candidly about aging, marriage, motherhood, and faith--all topics she and Farrah dealt with together over the years - Alana provides a moving tribute to a woman, once Hollywood's golden girl, and an inspiring celebration of life.

My Journey with Farrah is the story of two courageous women who stood by each other through good times, bad times, and now the most trying of times.

It is a book that will make people laugh, cry, and rejoice in the power of friendship. "
