Suggestions for Parents with an Adolescent Male Growing Man Boobs

In this current era where six pack abs and hard chests are fashionable and almost considered mandatory in young men, any teen who is not able to fit that image is going to have a problem with self esteem and possibly with bullying.

As a parent, it can be hard to see your teenage son struggling with man boobs, but gynecomastia in adolescent males is more common than you think.

Many young men have to deal with the embarrassment and frustration of having breasts that are overly developed.

If you think your child may have a problem with man boobs, you should speak with your pediatrician.

Your doctor will be able to diagnose whether or not there’s a problem and discuss possible treatment options.

When it comes to treating gynecomastia in adolescent males, often the best course of treatment is just time.

Often this condition will take care of itself as your son grows older. In cases where it doesn’t go away, more aggressive medical solutions may be required.

The good news is that even if your son is developing man boobs, he’s not likely to have any physical problems as a result.

This is a benign condition and while it may signal an underlying health problem, it isn’t dangerous in and of itself.

If your son has gynecomastia, you’re more likely going to need to support him emotionally.

It can be quite an embarrassing condition that can make your son feel like his breasts are feminine.

He may worry about being bullied or made fun of because of this condition.

Work with your child to help him understand the cause of the problem and talk with your doctor.

But then work to help him understand that the physical condition he has doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with him.

Some situations that can be especially hard for a young man include changing in a public locker room and going without a shirt during sports.

Help your son to be prepared so that he won’t have to feel public embarrassment.

For example, have him wear an undershirt so that he won’t have to remove all of his clothing before he gets ready for PE.

You might also want to inform his physical education teacher about this sensitive situation.

This is just another opportunity for kids to bully those with a different appearance.

Working together with the teacher or coach, you’ll be able to minimize the possibility that he will experience embarrassment.

Then you should also prepare your son for possible responses if he does have someone comment about his chest.

Help your son to have confidence in other areas so that his self-esteem isn’t totally dependent upon the way he looks.

With time the condition will most likely go away.

Gynecomastia in an adolescent male can be very difficult, but with encouragement and treatment, your son will be able to overcome it.
