Teen Dating – 5 Tips to Help You Determine if You are Ready

Take a look around any junior or senior high school, and you are bound to see several teens paired up. If you are not one of them, you may wonder how you will know when you are ready to start dating.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1. What do your parents say?

Every family has different expectations. Some parents are fine with letting their 12-year-old children begin dating, whereas others expect their children to wait until they are 18 years old.

Your parents have reasons for their decisions, so before you accuse them of being unfair, you want to find out what they are basing their decisions on.

For example, one or both of them may have had a bad experience from which they are trying to protect you.

2. What are the rest of your friends doing?

You never want peer pressure to be the reason why you feel like you need to date someone. Some of your friends may feel like they have to prove that they are special or desirable, but this is never the right reason to date.

3. Why do you want to date?

Related to the previous point, you need to determine why you want to date. For example, do you really like someone, and are interested in getting to know him/her more?

Or are you just curious, and think that it will make you more popular if you say that you dated someone. Determining the reason for your choices, before you follow through with them, can save you some heartache later.

4. Are you ready for what dating entails?

Inevitably, dating does involve physical contact with another person. That physical contact can be as little as holding hands, but may also involve kissing, petting, and even sex at some point in the relationship.

So before you even find yourself in a particular situation, you need to determine what is acceptable to you and your values.

5. Are you ready for the emotional aspects that dating involves?

Just as physical contact can be involved in dating, there is often an emotional aspect.

Dating can involve ups and downs, as well as break-ups. Are you emotionally strong enough to accept a break-up if someone breaks up with you? What about if you had to be the one doing the breaking up? Would you be able to handle that?

To summarize, dating can be a wonderful experience, but it also involves giving some thought to why you want to date, and whether you are ready to accept what dating may entail.

You are a life Saver!!

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
