The Girl Who Played with Fire
In his sequel to his first international best selling novel, Stieg Larsson brings back sullen heroine Lisbeth Salander.
The Girl Who Played with Fire reunites Lisbeth with her unlikely partner Mikael Blomkvist as they search for answers from someone who’d rather certain questions remain unasked.
With this novel, the resilient heroine has to come face to face with a past that made her the person she’s become. Her existence will depend on her remaining more cunning than those who wish her dead.
The suspect in a grisly crime she didn’t commit, Lisbeth’s freedom depends on the investigative skills that Mikael possesses. This novel is not for the faint at heart.
Some scenes are very much in your face and will make the average reader cringe. This thriller upholds the promise given in the first novel of this series.
In the start of The Girl Who Played with Fire, readers are introduced to character Dag Svensson, also a journalist who is about to shed a rather unflattering light on those involved in the human trafficking trade.
But before he can go public with his story, he and his girlfriend Mia Johansson are murdered. Because of evidence Lisbeth was present at the murder scene and because of her shady past, she’s named as a suspect.
When the man who once attacked her is also found dead, the police have even more reason to suspect Lisbeth.
She’s now become the hunted and must become as invisible as possible to those who want her dead. When powerful key players want someone dead, the fight for survival takes on a desperate edge.
From page to page, author Larsson keeps ramping up the suspense and bone chilling violence. As deception drips from the pages, the characters must find their way through a maze of lies and deadly secrets.
The history of the heroine enables her to have the spunk she needs in order to outwit the enemies.
Though the characters are by no means perfect, their mere grit and determination to succeed against the evil around them will endear them to readers.
With his genius flare for being able to keep track of multiple characters and their individual story lines, Larsson has created yet another work of literary intrigue with The Girl Who Played with Fire.
Some of the idea behind the works of Larsson were no doubt inspired by his own past as a journalist.
