Work From Home | Step 3 – Develop a Work at Home Routine

The most important step to take when you work at home happens before you ever start the actual work. Before anything, you need to develop your routine.

This means that you need to decide what time you’re going to work. If you’re someone who enjoys a typical 9 to 5 routine, then you can set your job up for those hours.

But if you don’t even really wake up and are able to focus until after 10 A.M., then you can begin work later in the day.

The key is to do what works for you. This will give you the ability to have a lot more flexibility.

You’ll be able to work in things like taking the time to play with your kids or anything else that’s important to you.

When you create this routine for yourself, you need to make sure that you have your break time inserted into your schedule.

This can help prevent mental as well as physical fatigue.

Go ahead and create a time for the hours you’re going to work as well as your breaks - but it’s important that you also schedule when you’re going to get off work for the day.

With your routine, whatever time you set for yourself, let those be your “morning hours” - even if you don’t start work until the evening.

When you have morning hours as part of your routine, this is when you can be your most productive. It means getting started as soon as your work schedule begins.

You’ll notice when you’re setting up your routine that there may be times when you feel more like working.

But you’ll also have times that you feel less like working.

It’s okay to shape your schedule around when your motivation is stronger and when it isn’t as long as you get your work tasks completed.

If you’re under a time crunch, make sure you do whatever parts of your projects that you don’t enjoy first thing on your schedule.

Or, you can do several smaller tasks first, get them off your to-do list then approach the more difficult work.

When you create your work at home routine, you can set it up just as you would if you had to go into the office to work.

Or, your routine could include weekend work so that you’re free during the week instead.

As part of your routine, include what you’re going to be doing in your schedule. This will help you keep your projects on point.

By using a planner or calendar, you can create blocks of time that help you have a work at home routine that gets your tasks completed by the time you need to be finished for the day or for the week.

Plus, when you have a work at home routine, it’ll help you establish and maintain your work-life balance, which is important to your overall health and well-being.
