Work From Home | Step 4 – Create a Network of Work at Home Friends and Resources

Working at home can be one of the best things you’ll ever do. It can open up many opportunities, give you the flexible schedule you’ve always wanted, and you can be your own boss.

But just as you do when you’re with an office team, you want to have a network of other people you can turn to. You’ll want to know what resources are available for you.

When you work from home, you’re not going to have a company team. You won’t have colleagues to hang out with at work or to go out and socialize with. You can still have a virtual team, though.

You can create a network that you’ll be able to turn to for friendship, for getting advice from and for work resources. For example, you might have a project come up that needs graphic design.

At the office, there was probably someone in-house to do that task. Now that you’re at home, you’ll need to find that designer.

You might need someone to brainstorm ideas with, someone to go over your strategy with, or someone who can give you technical assistance on your website. Whatever you might need help with, you’ll be able to have that once you create your network.

Your network can be anyone from the circle of people who you already know as well as people you encounter while working at home. To start connecting, reach out to people you’ve worked with in the past.

This can be your colleagues or a resource you had when you worked in an office. Maybe you had to contact an IT person to help with a technical issue at work.

This is someone that you can reach out for your own network if they’re able to on their off hours.

You’ll want to join professional organizations that are in the field of work that you’re in.

These organizations can not only offer camaraderie, but usually have a wealth of people among their members that you can reach out to when you need something.

Reach out to the people that you know separate from work.

You could have friends or family members who know someone beneficial for your network. Tell these people what you’re looking for.

Maybe your cousin has a friend who handles whatever service it is that you need. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends if they have friends who could be a help when you’re building your network.

Look back at your past. Check out what your high school or college friends might be doing. They could be in the position to be one of your resources.

Find an online group of work at home professionals on social media that you can join to get and give advice, to gain and give support and to turn to when you need a resource.
