Blood Pressure Headache

When you have high blood pressure, it’s not uncommon to have blood pressure headache pain. While high blood pressure is often free from symptoms, one symptom that can clue you in is frequent and painful headaches.

Headaches result with high blood pressure because of the constriction of blood vessels in under the skull and in the brain. As they constrict, they cause discomfort. If you have frequent headaches, though, it doesn’t mean you have high blood pressure. In fact blood pressure headache is quite rare.

However, it’s a good idea to get your blood pressure tested to make sure that it isn’t the culprit. Another reason people with high blood pressure can have more headaches has to do with the cause of the high blood pressure.

Often high blood pressure is related to a stressful lifestyle. If you have high stress, you’re more likely to have tension in the back, neck, and shoulders. This tension can lead to tension headaches. Tension headaches tend to affect the areas around the outside of the head.

Imagine wearing a visor around your head. That’s the band where tension headache pain most often occurs. Untreated tension headaches can be very painful and debilitating. The good news is that you can do a lot to reduce the occurrence of them.

Meditation, massage, and exercise can often help release stress from the muscles and prevent headaches. And these activities will also help to lower your risk of high blood pressure or reduce high blood pressure.

Most of the time headache isn’t related to blood pressure. In fact, most of the time blood pressure headache is the results of an extreme episode of hypertension. This is known as hypertension crisis when your systolic pressure is over 180 or your diastolic pressure is above 110.

If this happens, you need to seek medical treatment immediately. High blood pressure also puts people more at risk for stroke. Often people who present with a stroke describe it as having the worst headache of their lives.

If you have this feeling, you need to seek emergency medical treatment. Early treatment of stroke can save your life and prevent long-term complications. If you have high blood pressure, you should do all you can to lower it to prevent stroke and heart disease.

It’s important to get regular blood pressure screenings because often you won’t have symptoms. Don’t count on problems such as blood pressure headache to alert you to high blood pressure – it’s not as common as you might think.

It’s much better to keep yourself from developing heart disease than to try to keep it from getting worse later.
