How DLNA Works On TVs Smartphones and Tablets

If you're thinking about buying a new smartphone, digital media box or HDTV then you're bound to come across DLNA. But what is DLNA, and do you need it in any device you buy? Here's a beginner's guide.

What Is DLNA?

More and more of us enjoy content in digital, rather than physical, form, whether that means MP3 files on our iPods, videos downloaded onto our computers, or photographs taken on our tablet PCs.

Frustratingly, however, it isn't always easy to transfer this digital content between devices.

Many of us would love to watch videos on our flat screen TV. Instead, we're stuck crowding around a smaller computer screen.

Similarly, we'd love to send photos from our smartphones to digital photo frames, but doing so means long-winded transfers. The good news is, there is a simpler way!

DLNA means that you can easily stream and transfer content from one device to another, as long as both devices are DLNA certified.

DLNA isn't specific to any one manufacturer, either, which means it's available on a wide range of tablet computers, smartphones, TVs, speakers and so on.

The best thing about DLNA is that it doesn't require any set up or installation of software on all of your devices.

To receive content to any device, simply select a source and you'll be able to play your files with ease.

Which Products Come With DLNA?

There's now a huge range of products that can come with DLNA functionality.

These include: TVs, games consoles, digital media devices, computers, printers, smartphones, tablets, speakers and more.

DLNA should be listed among the specifications of any device you're interested in buying.

Some devices can only receive content from other DLNA devices, some can only send content to other DLNA devices, and some can do both (including some smartphones).

Note: You do need to have a wired or wireless home network set up for DLNA to work across all of your devices.

Do You Need DLNA?

The question of whether you need DLNA depends on the kind of media you consume. If you're always switching between gadgets, or wish that there was an easy to way to watch videos on your TV from the computer, then DLNA could certainly be a great addition to your home network.

Just make sure any devices you buy are compatible, and it will take you to time at all to start sharing your media!

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
