Shopping for Baby and Nursery: Essentials to Get First

I have some fantastic books about baby care and parenting that I intend to get published and available as books to buy online here, but for the time being I just wanted to put these tips online to get the ball rolling.

I personally love knitting baby clothes to give new baby and mother, it is so satisfying to create them, and a bonnet with bootees is fairly fast to knit up as well.

Anyway, for those of you working out what to get to set up your nursery, or the rest of us who are trying to work out what we can buy the parent of a new baby, here are my tips:

With whole department stores dedicated to selling items for newborn babies, shopping can be a bit of an overwhelming task.

While you likely know the absolute must haves for the baby (a stroller, a car seat, diapers, bottles, etc.), you may be in the dark about some of the very necessary, yet not so obvious items that you also need to stock up on for baby.

A Bassinet or a Cradle:
You may be wondering why these items are on this list when you are purchasing a crib, but the truth is that these little portable sleeping areas are very useful.

The first 2 months or so of your baby’s life will be spent waking up every few hours to feed him.

Having a small sleeping area for him in your bedroom will save you the hassle of having to stumble into his room at 2 a.m. half asleep.

Soothing Music:
You’ve likely heard that soothing music is good for babies and this really is the truth.

Load up your iPod with some classical music or purchase CDs of soothing tunes to play for your baby – this music will help to calm her when she’s restless (and will help to calm you, too).

Sleep Sacks:
Blankets present a health hazard to babies when they are sleeping.

In order to keep your baby warm and cozy in a safe way, use sleep sacks.

These pint sized sleeping bags go directly on baby, like clothing, keeping her safe and warm.

Zippered Pajamas:
It may be something that you would never even think of, but pajamas that zipper up are far easier to operate than those that button or snap.

When you are faced with a squirming baby or a 3 a.m. changing, you will be glad that you don’t have to wrestle with those snaps or buttons; just zip and go.

Baby Nail Clippers:
Your baby’s nails grow at a rapid rate and they are quite sharp.

In order to keep your baby (and you) safe from those sharp nails, have a pair of baby nail clippers on hand.

These special clippers are smaller than the average version and feature special grippers so that you can have a sturdy hold on the tool while clipping baby’s nails.

Cute wall mural for nursery:
Every nursery needs some fun décor to entertain mother and baby, and one of the easiest and most affordable ways to decorate a nursery without having to be artistic is to simply apply a clever and cute nursery wall mural that you can buy online.

They come in every imaginable style of color, theme, style, and range from the fun to the very subtle and sophisticated!

I have a selection here of sweet mural for nursery wall themes and ideas that you can check out - absolutely ADORABLE designs of wall mural for nursery in every gorgeous theme available!

And then also remember that EVERY nursery and new baby HAS TO have the mandatory, and essential GIANT TEDDY BEAR - LOL!

I loved my two teddy bears from the day I got them, and even as an adult I was delighted to receive a giant Harrington bear one Valentine's day, so make sure that your little baby has it's own Furever Friend!
