Some The Best Things To Do On a Cruise Ship

by Julie Newbound

My wife and I learned several years ago that our favorite vacations are cruise vacations. When we tell our friends this, many of them wonder what they would do if they were “stuck on a cruise ship” for a week.

We tell them that having nothing to do is never a problem. And then we outline some our favorite things to do when we are on a cruise.

I don't know about you, but to me a vacation is a time to get rid of stress and to just take the time to relax.

I like nothing better than getting up in the morning and taking a nice walk around the deck of the ship.

Most ships have a walkway that goes all the way around the 3rd or 4th deck and it is perfect for taking either a leisurely stroll or a brisk morning walk.

Then it is up to the buffet for breakfast. Our experience is that the buffet restaurants on most ships are on one of the highest decks and offer breathtaking views of the ocean.

We like to eat healthy when we cruise and there are always lots of fresh fruits and healthy cereals available for breakfast.

After sitting over a relaxing cup of coffee for a few minutes, it's off to the pool.

To me, there is nothing more relaxing than laying by the pool as the ship sails along. You can hear the gulls chirping and the water lapping up against the side of the ship.

Most cruise lines offer small Calypso groups to play island music. I love the sound of steel drums.

I always take a book along and can spend hours just laying by the pool and listening and watching and reading.

However, for those who think that sounds boring, there are lots of activities on board the days you are not visiting a port.

Most ships have organized events. We always enjoy a game of trivia and that is organized in one of the lounges and is played with a group of passengers.

It's a great way to meet people. There are also cooking classes in the kitchen, wine tasting in the dining room, art auctions in the galleries (these art auctions sell original pieces and are extremely popular), and even demonstrations on how to fold towels into funny little animals

At night some cruise lines have movies played under the stars out by the pool. The deck chairs are covered with comfy blankets and the staff brings you popcorn!

We have seen many current movies in such a setting and it is magical.

Usually one night during the cruise a midnight buffet is offered that is filled with all sorts of scrumptious goodies, including beautiful chocolate creations!

If you have never been to a midnight buffet, don't miss it!

So, as you can see, there is lots to do on a cruise ship --- even on the days that you are at sea.

Of course I have just named a few of what we consider the best things to do on the ship --- you can probably make up a whole new list of your favorites!

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
