Tips for First Time Travelers Going Overseas.

In this section we feature some basic tips for first time travelers going overseas because you have so much to plan and prepare for if you want to be sure of having a fun and memorable trip.

When you are planning to travel abroad and it is your first time, you need to prepare yourself for traveling and to adapt to the local culture of the place you are visiting to make your trip a good and memorable one.

After all these years of planning and saving money, you are finally about to set your foot on your first traveling adventure.

It is only natural for first time travelers to read all the travel blogs and the mere thought of traveling itself will raise your anxiety.

However, there are a few things, which you need to know before you take off

Tips for overseas travel planning for first-time travelers.

1. Get your passports and papers ready

travel passport

The first thing you need to travel is a passport.

Make sure you have a signed, valid passport and a visa if required and fill in the emergency papers ready.

For some countries, your passport has to be valid for a minimum of 6 months your intended return date.

Check if you need visas for the country you are planning to visit or transit through.

2. Do some research

It is necessary to do some research about the place you are going to visit.

Make sure you check the visa requirements, climate, accommodation, local culture etc. for first time travelers it is best to start small.

Visit places that you can identify with.

For first timers, it is not ideal to fly straight away to an Asian country if you are an American, because of the cultural difference.

However, if really want to visit such places then do some research to learn everything about it before you travel.

3. Get Travel Insurance

While traveling overseas, sometimes things can go wrong without warning.

Therefore, you need to brace yourself for that kind of emergencies.

For this, you need travel insurance.

Make sure before you sign travel insurance it covers the hospital treatment charges, medical examinations costs etc.

4. Foreign Currency

Foreign Currency

It is very important that you do not rely on one form of currency when traveling abroad.

Carry credit cards, cash and if possible travelers cheques too.

Make sure you carry enough money with you to cover up emergencies.

Remember, you should never place all the money at one place.

5. Save copies of important documents

passport book

You need photo copies of all the important documents like visa, passport, travel insurance, flight tickets etc.

Save one copy in your laptop or phone and carry another printed copy in your backpack.

This will save you in case you lose your documentation.

6. Get a health check

One thing you definitely want to avoid when traveling abroad is to fall sick.

So make sure you visit your general physician before you travel overseas.

He will provide you information about vaccinations and precautions you need to take for places you are going to visit, such as anti-malaria medication.

7. Discuss your traveling plans

When you are traveling, it will be good to have a few contacts in the place you are visiting.

Before you travel abroad, leave your travel information with your friends and family like the place you are visiting, where you will be staying, and your contact information there and when you are going to return.

This information will be helpful in case of emergencies

8. Follow local laws and conditions

When you are in a foreign country, you are subject to its laws.

Therefore, you need to familiarize yourself with those laws.

Some places like Asia and Middle East are very conservative than European and American countries.

So pack appropriate clothing for the places you are visiting.

9. Pre-Book all special events in your trip

When traveling overseas you have the opportunity to catch some wonderful tours and also to see live shows that won't be coming to your home city for years, if they ever do.

So a lot of tourists try to catch the best shows while they are in the big cities.

Once upon a time it was mandatory to see Cats in the theater when in London, or the Cirque du Soleil wherever they were appearing.

No one in their right mind would travel to Las Vegas without going to see some of the amazing shows that are live their every night.

When you talk to your travel agent about all the other things that must be pre-booked, make sure you request for the tickets to be booked and paid for long before you leave home, to make sure you are not disappointed when you arrive only to find the theater tickets are sold out.

You can also buy your own tickets online, and all you have to do is to make sure that they are well established and reputable agents.

Continue to Research

A lot of times the disasters experienced overseas by first time travelers are the result of a lack of knowledge or understanding of how to plan a trip.

If this is the case, then you should take the time to begin researching more tips for first time travelers.

There is a lot of power and relief that comes from learning about how to avoid the pitfalls you sometimes hear about.

You’ll be surprised about how much a little research can help you with planning and booking the trip of your dreams when you travel overseas.

Make sure you follow all the basic steps to keep your travel safe as well as fun!
