What Dog Grooming Equipment You should look for

With the outmost importance of dog grooming, there are several dog grooming equipments available for you to choose from. But what exactly should you buy? This question might probably be the most relevant one to ask since you might be lost with too many dog grooming equipment in one single store.

To answer this, let us categorize what equipment should be on the top of your list and what are the optional ones.

Grooming your dog is not limited to its coat. You should not limit your equipment to those that function to clean your dog's coat and body.

You should clean every part of your dog to ensure that it grows healthy and at the same time active and happy.

So what are the equipment you should have? The following should be on your shopping list:

Brushes and combs – The importance of brushes and combs go beyond their use as cleaning tools. Using either a brush or comb will help the coat to stay healthy and shiny as well.

Brush and comb can also be used to prevent and remove tangles and matts.

However, if these two cannot de-matt or untangles portions of the coat, you should use de-matting tool.

This will effectively remove the matts as well as the tangles in every part of the dog- especially the portions of the ears, tail, and toes.

Trimmers, scissors, and clippers – For some dog owners, especially those with long coat breeds, trimmers, scissors, and clippers are essential dog grooming equipment.

This is because dogs with these breeds constantly require trimming and cutting.

Just like humans, dogs get easily irritated with their long coat.

The hair on the dog's face could destruct its line of vision making it hesitant and fearful of things.

Untrimmed or uncut coat can also cause unhealthy coat growth. Making sure you have these equipment will keep your dogs active.

Nail clippers or cutters – Dog's toenails grow constantly. This is why you should periodically cut your dog's nails every 2 to 3 weeks.

Uncut toenails can be uncomfortable with your dog, limiting it from doing normal things such as playing and running.

Your dog can hurt itself with its long toenails. There are two types of clippers: scissors style nail clipper or the guillotine style clipper. Both will work well.

Teeth and ear cleaner - Tooth scaler, toothbrush, tick remover, and hair puller are tools you must have to maintain clean healthy teeth and clean ears.

These are the equipment you must have.

Moving on, the following are optional equipment you can purchase. Of course, the importance of these still depends on you, the usage, and how much budget you have.

Dog dryers – After bathing, you must dry the coat of your dog while brushing. You can either use a towel. But for a more convenient grooming, dryer will be the right tool. Dog dryer may be very helpful if you own long coat breed of dog.

Grooming table – It is another optional equipment you can buy. The grooming table is so useful if you own a small-size dog. If you don’t want your dog to stand on the kitchen table or dinning table while you are brushing it, then grooming table is a must have.

Other optional dog grooming equipment include, scissor cases/holsters, liquid dispensers, restraints and supports, and gloves and mitts.

After you have understood the particular grooming requirements of your dog, prepared yourself, invested on the tools and supplies that you need, and learned more about how to groom your dog then, it is time for you to do some dog grooming!
